Brief Description:  Start trimming canopy

Started timming the canopy to fit. I reviewed the Sonex video tips on canopy installation and started trimming with a bandsaw. I found the bandsaw method difficult to control for a straight cut of the flopping canopy and went back to using an angle grinder with a narrow cutoff blade. I have been using the same tool for cutting aluminum stock instead of a bandsaw. The cutoff wheel was much easier to control, melting its way through the plastic. I think the cutoff wheel method leaves fewer stress risers than the bandsaw blade.

The canopy still needs final trimming/sanding to obtain the desired 1/16" gap forward and aft as well as final trimming the bottom edges. I will also need to do some additional shaping of the canopy bows for a better fit to the shape the canopy tends to take. I might also try some shims between the canopy and the bows at the attachment points if needed to avoid pulling the canopy to the bow making stressed areas and visual dimples.
